East Side Gallery

A 1.3 km stretch of the former Berlin Wall, transformed into an open‑air gallery of murals.

The East Side Gallery blends history and street art, with powerful works painted directly onto the concrete that once divided the city.

How to fit the East Side Gallery into your day

  • Morning: Walk the gallery before the biggest crowds, starting at either Ostbahnhof or Warschauer Strasse.
  • Midday: Pause at the river for photos, then cross the Oberbaum Bridge.
  • Evening: Return to the area for bars and restaurants in Friedrichshain or Kreuzberg.

Before you go

  • Bring water and sunscreen on sunny days – there is little shade along the wall.
  • Be respectful of the art and avoid touching or leaning on the murals.
  • Consider combining with the Berlin Wall Memorial for more context on the history behind the artwork.
